American Society for Testing and Materials

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is a technical standards organization. They have an international consensus for technical systems and services. It was first developed during the 1800's when the railroad industry took off. The different standards are developed so that there is no confusion within the participating countries, about the technical products and services. There are volunteer committees to collaboratively implement and develop the many standards. The standards of ASTM only became global in 2001 with the high exporting and sharing of many technical careers and knowledge. ASTM first became so popular because of all the standards that they implemented to allow all the countries to adjust to teh services and specifications.
