Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland is underactive and doesn’t produce enough of essential endocrine hormones. Hypothyroidism presents symptoms of obesity, joint pain, infertility, depression, heart disease, fatigue, and inability to tolerate the the cold. The disease is often caused by Iodine deficiency, but can also be caused by autoimmune disease. Treatment is usually possible via synthetic delivery of hormones, and thyroidism is easy to diagnose via a blood test.
Management of hypothyroidism is now possible via mobile health applications. Several mobile apps have been developed that analyze symptoms in order to predict hypothyroidism in an individual, ones that allow a patient to understand a medicine’s dosage and lab values, and one to help manage symptoms.
