Lung cancer is a cancer that originates in your lungs. It is the leading cause of cancer related deaths even more so than colon, prostate, ovarian, and breast cancers. It actually kills more than all of these combined. Smoking greatly increases the risk of lung cancer and is the leading cause of it. Secondhand exposure to tobacco can also damage your lungs. General prognosis of lung cancer is poor due to doctors usually finding the disease in an advanced stage.
Unfortunately in many patients about one in four never develop symptoms of lung cancer. This makes it very hard to diagnose and catch at an early stage. The other three out of four develop these symptoms caused by the primary tumour, the cancer spreading otherwise known as metastases, or changes in hormones, blood, or other bodily systems.
