MEDLINE is the U.S. National Library of Medicine's bibliographic database of life sciences and biomedical information. It includes bibliographic information for articles from academic journals covering medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and health care. It also cover a lot of the literature in biology and biochemistry and in fields such as molecular evolution. Medline is freely available on the Internet. It is searchable on PubMed and NLM's National Center for Biotechnology Informations's Entrez system and is indexed with NLM Medical Subject Headings.


The database holds over 18 million records from 5,000 selected publications covering biomedicine and health from 1950 to the present. Initially, the database covers articles from 1946 to present with some older material available. This database is freely accessible over the Internet.
