MyPyramid_4c.jpg is run under the United States Department of Agriculture in The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion. The center’s two main goals are:
1. The advancement and promotion of dietary guidance for all Americans.
2. To conduct and apply research and analyses in nutrition and consumer economics.

Based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, offers personalized eating plans, tips and resources, interactive tools to help plan and assess food choices, and printing materials so you are also able to promote healthy eating.

Here is how they define the 6 main food groups.
  • Grains: Any food made from wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley or another cereal grain
  • Vegetables: Any vegetable or 100% vegetable juice counts as a member of the vegetable group.
  • Fruits: Any fruit or 100% fruit juice counts as part of the fruit group.
  • Milk: All fluid milk products and many foods made from milk are considered part of this food group. Foods made from milk that retain their calcium content are part of the group, while foods made from milk that have little to no calcium, such as cream cheese, cream, and butter, are not.
  • Meat & Beans: All foods made from meat, poultry, fish, dry beans or peas, eggs, nuts, and seeds are considered part of this group. Dry beans and peas are part of this group as well as the vegetable group.
  • Oils: Oils are fats that are liquid at room temperature, like the vegetable oils used in cooking. Oils come from many different plants and from fish.
    (Sugars: Added sugars are sugars and syrups that are added to foods or beverages when they are processed or prepared. This is seen in the Pyramid but not on the plate diagram. They urge you limit the amount of this ingest.)

From this dietary guideline an easy-to-use chart was created to further promote nutrition. They have also created a new diagram that also shows what percentage of your plate should be which food group.

MyPyramid Plan allows the user to enter their age, weight, sex, height and physical activity level in order to give the user an estimate of how much of each food group they should intake daily.

MyPyramid Menu Planner gives the user the opportunity to plan a menu by searching for foods and beverages planned to be consumed. The user must login to have access to this feature

MyPyramid Tracker is an online assessment of dietary and physical activity levels. This assessment tools provides information on the user's dietary quality, physical activity status, and other important messages and links to nutritent information.

Child Cost Calculator -- The site plans to launch this section soon -- With USDA’s Cost of Raising a Child Calculator, you will be able to estimate how much it will annually cost to raise a child¹. also offers Multimedia Outlets such as Podcasts, PSAs and animation. They also use social media such as Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr to gain a wider audience
