Wearable Health Monitoring Systems (WHMS)
Wearable Health Monitoring Systems(WHMS) are devices that the patient or consumer wears to monitor a specific trait of their body, such as blood pressure or heart rate. These devices provide a more accurate report of the patients health rather than just a screenshot traditional measurements provide. This allows the patient to be more accurately treated for the condition they have. WHMS can also help in prevention of disease as trends are immediately noticed as a starting point is established.
These monitoring systems have become increasingly popular due to numerous reasons. First, is our ever increasing mobile culture. The mobile market, especially when dealing with health and lifestyle, has drastically increased. Miniature bio-sensing devices, high speed wireless connectivity, and microelectronics has made these systems more comfortable and efficient for all day wear. Increasing health costs and our data hungry society also makes WHMS more appealing. These systems allow for a greater amount of data with the least amount of overseeing or personnel. Now with the new Apple M7 coprocessor, the iPhone is gradually turning into a universal WHMS. Mobile developers will continue to use this coprocessor in order to make better fitness and health apps.
Heart Rate Monitor:
A device that measures an individual's heart rate a single given time. This device is typically used by athletes to improve their physical performance. But this device could also be useful in heart disease patients who need to keep their heart rate under a certain level
Wearable Blood Pressure Monitor:

, this device is worn around the patient's wrist and pinky finger. The device uses pulse wave velocity to determine blood pressure. Pulse wave velocity measures blood pressure by measuring two points along an artery.
Continuous Glucose Monitoring Device:
A device that constantly reads the glocuse level of the patient who is wearing th device. A sensor is inserted un der ther skin which checks the glocose levels in the tissue's fluid where the sensor is inserted.
An electronic display device receives the signal and displays the corresponding glucose level.
AiQ Smart Clothing:
This company produces sports clothing that has wearable textile electrodes built in the clothing. It records vital signs and shares it with a smartphone via Bluetooth connectivity. Your phone can then analyze your data through a mobile application. This clothing is even machine washable and even comfortable enough for daily wear.
A sensor insole that is fully integrated and wireless. This insole can be used in any shoe and measures the distribution and motion parameters of the user. The device has firmware that uses a USB radio stick to communicate with a PC. It has multiple uses including patient monitoring, rehabilitation, and training analysis in sports.
BodyGuardian Remote Monitoring System:
This system is mainly used for patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The company uses algorithms to support remote monitoring. Doctors can monitor patients' key biometrics without the patient having to do anything. A small sensor attaches to the patient's chest collecting ECG, heart rate, respiration rate, and activity level. The data is transmitted to the physician through smartphone technology.
WHMS was used to mainly benefit ones with: diabetes, heart disease, hypoglycemia, and hypertension. Now the audience has greatly widened to a more general audience. This can include anyone with a smartphone who likes to keep fit or wants to know more about their body.
