Description:
eMix is used to share medical imaging studies and medical information securely through cloud computing. eMix was created to change the way doctors share information between different healthcare facilities. If Facility A used one proprietary IT system and Facility B used a different proprietary IT system, they would not be able to exchange information. The reason eMix is so useful for doctors is that it effectively allows information exchange without upgrade existing IT systems. eMix is vendor neutral, so Facility A and Facility B will have no issues communicating via eMix. All the user needs is a PC with internet access; there is no additional hardware or software necessary. This makes the eMix system very affordable and practical. Patients no longer need to retake tests they have already taken, saving them time and money.
eMix also provides eight layers of security to assure healthcare information is protected and complies with the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act(HIPAA).

In April of 2011, eMix added a Medical Report Delivery option. Medical reports can now be sent electronically, in multiple file formats, called eMix EMRconnect. eMix report recipients can now choose their desired report delivery formats, including HL7(Health Level 7), CDA(Clinical Document Architecture), TXT(text), RTF(Rich Text Format), and any other format in which can be imported into a physician's EMR(Electronic Medical Record). eMix EMRconnect allows for even more standardization and flexibility in the sharing and processing of healthcare information among different IT systems.

Applications:
eMix allows users to exchange reports, medical images, and medical data through the cloud. This effectively makes burning CDs, faxing reports, and printing film obsolete

Physcians - instantaneous access to patient images and information.
Patients - Now, your medical information is available anywhere you are, eliminating the need to waste time or money repeating exams which were already performed at another facility.

Security:
eMix is a trusted by majority of healthcare organization and it is estimated that around 500 different organization use this method. The organizations that use eMix are ranging from academic medical centers, medical imaging centers, children hospitals, to individual physicians. All of the institutions that are using or used eMix, have evaluated privacy and security methods as top of the notch.
Besides being secure, eMix use SSL ( Secure Socket Layer) encryption which meets HIPPA requirements. SSL insures that the data in transit is virtually indecipherable if it ends up intercepted by unauthorized user. Also, eMix features member verification method. This method insures that every institution that uses eMix has assigned administrator who is responsible for adding and deleting verified users. Finally, eMix has intrusion detection monitoring system that runs 24/7/365. This system has multiple layers of firewalls, which restricts against malicious network attacks.

The most crucial security steps that eMix provides is their "Data Redundancy and Retention" and " New Recipient Confirmation".
Data Redundancy and Retention layer insures that any information stored on the server is securely backed up in-case of an emergency, which could cause failures to the software or hardware. The way this layer works is by backing up valuable user information to multiple different servers.
New Recipient Confirmation layer eliminates any illegitimate that are not authorized to use this software. This layer works by asking users to confirm their identity. Examples of identity verification are; confirming correct user e-mail, I.D, and other information stored in the database.
The last security level for eMix is " Auditing". Auditing system tracks all of the transactions made between eMix clients and servers of other users. That information is audited at local institution eMix database and the central eMix database. Storing information in both databases insure that users never lose their data due to software or hardware failures. In case of emergency, that data can be recovered from the Cloud services.
